Just getting on with it, and 'Doing It Yourself' has always been a key characteristic of creative individuals. But creative folk also rarely work in isolation, and collaboration is also often at the heart of many inventive endeavours. The first Glug Edinburgh will hear from a range of inspiring talkers on this theme of DIY in its various guises; from Inventors, to Architects, to Illustrators and Performers.
Speakers
Dominic Wilcox is an artist, designer, inventor & 'thinkeruper' / www.dominicwilcox.com/
Dominic works within the territory of the 'everyday'. Everyday objects, environments, buildings, human interaction, no area of normality is out of reach. His work, which is usually layered with an ultra dry wit, places a spotlight on the banal, always adding a new, alternative perspective on things we take for granted.
Malcy Duff - Illustrator & Musician
http://missingtwinnews.blogspot.co.uk/
Malcy illustrates and creates comics, in numerous inventive formats, and is one half of Usurper; " a deliberate luddite refusal to speak music's language 'properly'..."
Anna Gibb - Graduate Architect & Illustrator
http://www.annagibb.com/
Anna believes the distinction between art and architecture is blurred, and that the drawing of architecture is fast becoming a lost art. She (in a team with Ross Anderson) was selected as one of the exhibiting architects in the British Council Pavillion at the forthcoming Venice Bieniale (August 2012), with a project exploring the Russian 'Paper Architecture' movement.
Paul Kerlaff - Designer / http://www.paulkerlaff.com/
After an early eclectic career in religious illustration and hi-fi sales, Paul now creates bespoke and custom furniture and product designs, alongside teaching at Heriot Watt University.
Music from DJ Scotch & Wry
Creative pop ups Analogue Books & Song By Toad to explore in the space.
