Event Description

Since 1 August 2008, the rate of R&D tax relief increases from 150% to 175% for Small & Medium Sized Companies, whilst the size of company that qualifies as an SME for tax relief purposes also doubles from that date. That’s great news for Northern Ireland.

Additionally, even where someone else has funded or partly funded the R&D investment, for example, under an Invest Northern Ireland programme, there may still be an entitlement to claim R&D tax relief.

In these difficult, “credit crunch” times there is even the opportunity to get some cash back from HMRC for R&D spend in the past 2 years where the company is loss-making. This is particularly attractive to the early stage start-up company in the pre-revenue stage where cash is king.

Attend this workshop and you will learn:
•More about the R&D tax relief regime and how it affects your business;
•Which R&D projects qualify for relief;
•What types of R&D spend qualifies for the enhanced deduction;
•How to make R&D tax relief claims; and
•How to get cash back from HMRC in relation to R&D projects.

The workshop will be led by Caroline Keenan, Associate Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and David Stewart head of HMRC’s Northern Ireland Corporate Tax Office.

About NISP CONNECT’s Frameworks Entrepreneur Workshops
NISP CONNECT offers ongoing educational opportunities for entrepreneurs building and growing innovative hitech, biotech or cleantech companies and offers member companies the opportunity to provide expert content to a responsive, interactive audience.

Many of today’s business founders and future entrepreneurs have scientific and technical backgrounds but have had limited experience in industry, so they often lack exposure to critical information which is essential to leading a start-up. To fill this gap, NISP offers Frameworks Entrepreneur Workshops to provide these bright leaders with the vocabulary, foundations and framework around which they can build awareness of the many disciplines they will oversee as “C” level managers”
