Now entering it's tenth successful year at University of Edinburgh, "Screenwriting: Script Development" is the course you need if you want to turn your story into pages of screenplay. Part of the University's year-long screenwriting programme for adult learners, this course will get you writing scenes, sequences, visual action, dialogue and exciting pages of script for film or television.
Lectures, screenings, practical workshops and guided writing sessions will help students realise their script development. Students will be given practical exercises to work on individually and in groups to master the key skills.Topics covered include:
Students should have either a basic theoretical knowledge of screenwriting or some limited personal experience of creative writing. Ideally, you should come with an idea that you want to turn into a screenplay.
The course is taught by screenwriter and producer Douglas Dougan. Douglas created the screenwriting programme at University of Edinburgh, based on his years of expereince working in film and television. Douglas began his career writing for series television at BBC, Channel Five & ITV (Casualty, Family Affairs, Doctors, The Bill). In 2006, he set up Fluid Eye Productions. Among their credits are "Run, Tony, Run!" (BAFTA screenplay award), "Mono" (BBC Three Film Award), "Waiting for the 42" and "Half Way Home". Douglas works regularly as a script editor and script consultant on UK film and television productions. His credits as a script consultant include the multi-BAFTA award dramas "Margaret", "Small Island", "Five Minutes of Heaven", "Occupation" and "Sex 'n' Drugs 'n' Rock & Roll". Douglas is also Lead Practitioner for Moving Image Education in Scotland.
