Event Description

MASTER WORKSHOP ON FUNDING, MARKETING AND DISTRIBUTION OF INDEPENDENT FILMS

After the sold-out premier workshop in London, Sheffield Doc/Fest and the Scottish Documentary Institute are bringing Seize the Future to Edinburgh.

We are now inviting applications for this special 2 -day Master Workshop on Wednesday 23rd and Thursday 24th March 2011.

This course is designed for independent filmmakers and artists determined to get their work seen widely, create social impact, and earn a living in the digital age.
Leading distribution strategist and President of Paradigm Consulting Peter Broderick, and Sandi DuBowski of Trembling Before G-d, A Jihad for Love, and Budrus and Outreach Director for The Good Pitch, will co-present this workshop.

Peter and Sandi will reveal the cutting-edge tools and techniques successful filmmakers are using around the world to:

• Develop creative fundraising campaigns.
• Harness the Internet and social media to maximise awareness and audience.
• Design customized cutting-edge distribution strategies to increase revenue.
• Implement outreach campaigns to create social impact.
• Build a fan base to support future work.

The workshop will feature multi-media presentations, breakout groups, and interactive sessions. There will be networking opportunities during coffee breaks, lunch, and throughout the workshop. Everyone will have a chance to connect and lay the groundwork for future collaborations.

Here’s what last year’s participants said about Seize the Future:

“EXTREMELY USEFUL AND INSPIRING…This course not only assured me independent production and distribution was possible, but proved it was healthier, more ambitious and exciting than anything else. Most importantly, it gave real guides on how to do it.”

“EMPOWERING…I feel I have insight and confidence in an area that was previously a closed box to me. I definitely see this workshop as something that will impact and benefit my work in the future.”

Peter and Sandi first launched this intensive two-day workshop at Doc Aviv in Tel Aviv. Since it was such a great success, they have received invitations to present it around the world. They have separately given presentations at festivals such as Cannes, Toronto, Sundance, Berlin, Los Angeles, and IDFA. They have also consulted with hundreds of filmmakers, many of whom have won prizes at top film festivals, received critical acclaim, achieved wide distribution, and been nominated for Academy Awards.

The workshop fee includes lunch and drinks:

Workshop fee £150 (Applications up until March 4th 2011)

For those travelling from outside of Scotland, we are now able to offer £35 towards costs of travel.
