OK, fair enough, good to know things are proceeding a per normal. It's just that I put in a proposal on Feb 27th and haven't had any response or progress yet ... so I assumed it was stalled.

I've never stopped considering ideas, and have 8 or 9 I'm taking through to a fresh stage of contracts in the coming month or so. I've also got a significant backlog (only 6 over the 28-day target we set ourselves in the early days) which need looked at, thought about and talked through in more detail.

Not so much eternal contractathon, as we needed to take three weeks to concentrate our minds and those of our commissionees on little else.

Similar to Fearghas...I'm clear that things are moving forward. Not sure how that's playing out in the SE, but projects are clearly being considered up here in Scotland.

Ivan - I have two projects currently going through the consideration process, with requests for additional info so I know they are still thinking about it.

I know this aint my manor (come on, where's the South East version), but I'm wondering when 4iP might restart the proposal consideration process. Or are you in eternal contract-a-thon?

Let me fill in on what's happened with some 120+ project ideas in Scotland thus far. It starts with me picking up those proposals that are based in an area for which I have responsibility (Scotland, NI or the North East). Then, on a first glance I make a call on which are unlikely to attract funding for us, for a variety of reasons - normally because they don't match with the submission guidelines. These people receive an email with two or three reasons for the rejection, and often a follow-up discussion or phone call if they wish.

The second step involves contacting the interesting idea's proposer by email or by phone to ask for more information and maybe at this point to fix a face-to-face to work the idea up into something that's going to fit the bill. If the latter is required, an extra day or even an extra week can be added to the process.

The third step is a 'first pass' with the 4iP team to spot any potential deal breakers surrounding the creative idea. This happens most often at a F2F in one of our regional centres or London, on a Monday.

The fourth step involves the supplier figuring out the actual deliverables ,timelines and costs. This can take some time, especially when several different parts of the industry (think AI and a film producer) are having to get to know each other's domains.

The fifth step is a final compliance, legal and finance health check before the idea is then commissioned.

The process has taken 3 weeks at least so far, and six weeks at most, from the point of the idea being submitted to being commenced.

I hope this outline of what goes on from our end helps timescales fit into context.

Hey Ivan... From my personal experience you're not likely to hear anything for around a month. Unfortunately I can't tell you what happens if you're successful, but if your submission is rejected you should receive an e-mail informing you of a change of status …and if it's a rejection, one or two lines on the reason(s) for the rejection.

I think that as it’s early days, the 4iP team are inevitably learning and evolving as they go …and similarly on the flip side, there’s a learning curve for those making submissions to go through until it’s more evident what kind of projects are being supported.

Seeing as the 'first' 4iP project(ette) seems to have gone live, I thought it would be worth asking here who has proposals in, how they are getting on and what their views of the process were so far. From my perspective there is a sort of radio silence on progress, but I may be atypical. What I'd like to discuss is how the community is getting on with the 4iP process.

4iP is hunting for tiny, risky ideas as well as big, crunchy ideas.

4iP will help turn fabulous ideas into delightful running code quickly.

4iP will help products showing promise to deliver way more impact.

4iP won't support products or projects on an ongoing basis
4iP wants proposals from as wide range of people and companies as possible. Nobody is too small, nobody too big. Nobody is too close, nobody is too far away.

Your idea could make you a millionaire; your idea could earn you a knighthood for public service, but never turn a profit. Either way 4iP is interested in helping you get started.

4iP loves connecting people and organisations that otherwise would never get to work together.
