The new Head of Channel 4's 4iP Fund, Tom Loosemore arrives fresh from a postcode data project with the Metropolitan Police. Tom's mash-up links crime data information with web-enabled mapping systems
Tom says "It's a pretty decent first effort, in that the data is down to a nicely local level (typically half a dozen streets) and aggregates geographically (so you can see basic crime data for the streets near you, for your ward, for your borough and for London as a whole). The site should make it dead easy for your to contact them, and challenge/shape their priorities."
But do data mapping projects on crime help shape public policy or spread anxiety about crime? If there are any smart data-based public projects out there in Scotland and Ireland please promote on 38minutes?
