Given the recent stories about executives hiring planes, throwing lavish parties and checking in at five star hotels, it might be a shock to learn that I spend an awful lot of time on my sofa watching television. When I do I’m struck by how many good factual programmes there are.

Factual TV has always been an immensely important and powerful part of what makes Britain’s television the envy of many other countries. It’s always been a key point of distinction for Channel 4.
