Just a reminder that the Education 2020 Unconference is happening this Friday on Islay: http://education2020.wikispaces.com/Unconference+2009

Looks like a fantastic line up of topics and participants, not to mention the close proximity of distilleries. Should be a great day / weekend!

I think it might well be useful to have meets. As I am just ending my EdD at Edinburgh into Comp Sci teaching (viva Monday!) I need to get/keep a wider network of learning bods.

FWIW, I set myself tasks each year and see how they work out. 08-09 was: can I use The Cloud to become totally paperless for teaching and assessing? The answer was: yes (almost, I gave students paper copies of coursework specs, but that was all). The interesting side-effect was that the students on each campus felt exactly the same (as opposed to the usual UWS Paisley-centricism.)

The plan for 09-10 is: can I use vid con as a round-robin teaching tool for me to lecture point-to point with notes held on-line in The Cloud. That way it takes little more effort to teach across our huge campus spread than on one only. Again, I await the unexpected features with interest (and foreboding ...)

Also, note its not just new tech that makes teaching different, but I'll give Brendan's BBC Micro a miss (I *have* got one still in my office!)

The big event in Scotland for education for schools (not so much for FE or HE, but I always think worth attending for ideas) is the Scottish Learning Festival - at the SECC in Glasgow. http://www.ltscotland.org.uk/slf/ 23rd and 24th of Sept.
It looks like I'll be committed to supporting an online conference for one of those days, but it would be a good to have an Education Innovation Camp either side of the SLF. Nice idea Jim :-D

Thanks John and Daniel for joining - and for adding to mighty impressive wealth of experience in the group so far! With all this talk about a Social Innovation camp and a Political Innovation Camp, we all ought to knock together an Education Innovation Camp sometime..

As usual, 4 hours behind my UWS colleague Daniel in finding things out! I'm into making students achieve things using things out there on the Cloud. My main site is jnsak.wikispaces.com. Its kinda Blackboard for people who live in the c21st.

Hi there, just spotted this group!
my pet project: http://www.sloodle.org/ but I have broader interests in games, virtual worlds, and web 2.0 in (formal) education

What do researchers want from ICT? The JISC-funded Community Engagement projects set out to answer this question. This event will present some of their findings and stimulate debate on what needs to happen next.

Examples will be presented where innovative ICT techniques have been successfully incorporated into research processes. Barriers to success will be highlighted followed by solutions developed under the ENGAGE and JISC Virtual Research Environment projects. The debate will then be opened up to arrive at the next steps in ensuring that researchers have access to the ICT provision they need.

@Brendan Great find :) Granny's Garden must've been early inspiration for many a GBL developer. Incredible how far things have come since then..
