4iP will invest up to 100K in total

* We’ll offer up to 30K / app

* It must use new features offered up in the 3.0 update / SDK

* Bonus points if your app uses the games or ‘iphonic ubisensor’

* We’d like it to to be in the area of health, welfare or accessibility but we’re open to anything that meets 4iP criteria

* Output should be ready for submission to the App Store

* Entries must come through our submission system

* Must be UK companies / developers

* We must have received your entry by 16th April

As I mentioned on the 4IP blog, I was sitting in the launch of the European Connected Health Campus in Belfast this morning and talking to some folk about the iPhone Competition that we're going to be announcing very soon - one of the categories being Connected Health.

We're running some workshops in April here with hopefully some ADC folk - it's a hot topic!

Is this the usual - if you don't personally have the skills, 4IP might help you find some people who do?

It's part of what 38minutes is for, in addition to our own contacts and encounters. The more developers share their know-how and work here, the more non-developers will be able to choose in an informed way who they want to work with.

Hi Stuart, can we put in joint submission with universities- we are working with education partners
on a couple of projects, reusing our game tech for health and well-being games.
Also do we apply through the same 4ip submission process.

Cheers,

Jamie

You apply through normal 4iP submissions. Just make sure it's clear from the Elevator Pitch that this is an iPhone 3.0 SDK idea.

Thanks for that offer Jamie - most generous. Since 4iP has partnership at its heart we would never dioscourage partnerships that could add value, bring extra attention or further public media pruposes. Go for it.

I will publicise this to the Scottish Mobile Developers database we have including the people that attended the recent Apple Iphone Dev Conference at Edinburgh Uni... I am sure they will be well chuffed to get an opportunity of some funding :-)

It would be great to see this type of funding happening again perhaps to coincide with several key events in the year like the Edinburgh Interactive Festival.... however I understand that this is a national initiative :-)

Hi Ewan,

Are ROI companies eligible?

Thanks, Fred

Deadline for submissions is today!

Somehow missed this one. We'd be seeking companies in the UK, but ideas from the ROI could be picked up by the Festivals' marketing body. It's worth punting it in.

We have been looking at iPhone Apps as a possible student project/future employment area. It's hard to buy-in at the Uni level as we are so general-focussed. We get people asking for graduates, but can't take the isk easily of making the kids code in the obscurantist Objective C. Interesting that we have recently opted to add Python to our teaching in C++, C Sharp, Java and Flash, but not Apple's dev platform. I love Apple (everyone in my house has a MacBook as it ensures bliss when i get home, rather than 'dad, my PC's broken!') but it hasn't formed up into a real game dev area with money to be made. As MCV said this week, it's the forgotten paltform. YMMV (to reduce the flame wars from the pointy-beardie ones ...)
