Thank you to everyone who has expressed an interest in taking part in the 38minutes creative challenge.

We are going to run a new challenge every couple of months. Each brief will be suitable for all specialisms and will be designed to encourage collaborations – helping you to make new contacts and work towards an original piece of work for your portfolio. Some of the challenges are intended to be fun and playful, others will resemble a real brief from a business. The key to all will be creativity and teamwork.

For the first challenge, we decided to go for something fun. After all, “tis the season to be jolly” and all that. Ready?

Take 2 - Film, Reloaded

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to take a classic movie scene and make it your own. You can respond in any medium – reshoot the scene, draft a new piece of script, create an animation or illustration, write and draw a comic, or even compose a piece of music.

What if....

... Neo took a third, yellow pill in The Matrix?
... Renton decided not to choose life?
... Demi Moore decided not to make ceramics with a ghost?
... Bond realised his gun had been replaced with a banana?

You get the idea. Take a scene you love – or one you hate – and put your own spin on it.

How to enter
To enter, you will need to join forces with another member (or two). You’re not at school, so we aren’t going to pair you up. Instead, have a look at the list of people who have expressed an interest in the challenges, and drop them a line. This is a really important part of the challenge, as it gives you an insight into another area of media, gives you a new contact and shows an ability to work collaboratively. So don’t be shy!

Here's the list:

Chris Goodwin
Gillian Glencross
Sasha de Buyl-Pisco
Amy Hawes
James Park
Reece Cargan
Steven Gray
Ally Bhatia
Liberty Bonnar Thompson
Michael Richardson
Marc Madill
Conrad Molleson
David Johnstone
Rita Biermann
Nigel Wade
Justin Wilson
Harry McCafferty
Craig Macleod
Stuart Torrance

If you no longer want to take part, or want to opt out of this particular challenge, please just say so to whomever emails you. If you want to collaborate with a friend that's fine, but they must register on 38minutes and join this group - and please bear in mind that making new contacts is half the fun, and point, of the challenge.

When you are happy with your entry, please upload it as a discussion on this group, with the heading ‘Take 2 Entry’. (If it’s a video or recording, you’ll need to link to it, but scripts can be pasted into the text box and illustrations/photos etc uploaded).

The closing date for entries is 31 January 2011. The winning piece of work (as chosen by 38minutes) will be promoted throughout the site and as a ‘featured work’ on the homepage.

Questions? Please leave a note below.

Hi everyone this sounds like fun. Unfortunately I can't take part as all my uni assesments are due in over the next couple of weeks.
I would like to produce an animation over live action film footage. A little bit like this, ideally:

Em, calling all animators, could this be done within the time frame?
The deadline does seem a bit soon, would anyone else agree or am I worrying about xmas more than most?
That's a good point David! Will extend the deadline to 31 January to hopefully enable more people to enter. Hope that helps!
Hi Faranak

I'm sorry, I've thought about this carefully but I don't think it would be fair on the other entrants to allow this as an entry. A major aspect of the challenge is the collaboration element, which is why I've specified that people should team up, so allowing a single entrant would just confuse things. Please consider still entering with a new piece though!

Best,

Nicola

I have just fixed up an Autumn date (30 Oct) for my web writing course in Edinburgh. This is a rare Scottish opportunity for you and your colleagues to attend this popular public workshop which is otherwise held in London and inhouse. Sadly I haven't been up to Edinburgh as much as much as I would have liked lately, it's been a bit hectic down south.
