Hey, we’re recruiting! If you know your RSS from your Elgg-o, this might be for you…

The job…

Title Technical developer
Hours 9am-5pm-ish Mon-Thurs; 9am-1pm Fri
Terms Freelance on an initial 6 months fixed contract
Pay £2,000/month gross. Negotiable after 6 months
Location Sunny Govan. In a prison cell. You’ll also regularly visit clients’ premises

Overview…

Blether Media was formed in March 2009. The business provides social media training and consultancy for businesses and not-for-profits across Scotland and beyond. Our early success has created an immediate need for a Technical Developer to work alongside the Managing Director. The role involves executing the technical requirements of our clients’ social media strategies.

This position gives the right candidate a great opportunity to join us at an early stage and benefit from fast-track career progression as the company grows. Working within a start-up environment requires, um, a degree of flexibility. You must certainly be genuinely excited about social media and open to reinventing your job description on a regular daily basis.

The post has a fixed 6 month term initially, on a freelance basis, with the intention of moving to a full time salaried position thereafter.

Essential stuff…

* Building and customising WordPress (and similar) platforms, with integration of widgets and plugins etc
* Bespoke website design and development
* Customisation and integration of 3rd-party party social sites and services e.g. YouTube, Vimeo, Flickr, Facebook, Bebo, Twitter, LinkedIn etc
* Building open source networks e.g. Ning, Elgg etc
* Excellent knowledge of emerging technologies
* Providing hands-on client training on their premises in the technical use of social media tools
* Day to day management of all technical aspects of the Blether Media business. Fixing our email would be a start

Requirements…

* High level of technical expertise, demonstrable through a portfolio of work
* Commercial experience an advantage but not essential
* Experience of working within a team and solo without supervision
* Excellent people skills. You’ll need to be patient and calm when training clients
* Willingness to do whatever it takes to meet clients’ expectations
* Ability to remain focused under pressure
* Ability to manage time and workload effectively
* Small business mentality with a dislike for all things corporate

Nice to have…

* An active social media presence
* A positive, glass half-full attitude
* A bike
* Something better to do on Friday afternoons
