Kohl Publishing is an indie publishing house founded in 2011 by Leila Cruickshank and Lesley Dickson. We publish fiction for the modern female and have a strong digital focus.

We have just commissioned our first book and we are now looking for an illustrator to create a book jacket and some line drawings for this literary fiction novel.

We are looking for use of colour and line drawing skills. Hand-lettering abilities for the title of the book would be useful but not essential.

Process

If you are interested please send low resolution portfolios or links to online portfolios, along with a CV and contact details – current address and email essential.

We will choose a shortlist of 4–5 from the portfolios and ask the shortlisted illustrators to make sketches for the book jacket and then we will choose a winner. The shortlisted artists will be sent the text of the novel and a detailed synopsis of the book along with a further brief.

Payment

We will pay the successful illustrator £400 for the finished jacket and drawings on delivery of the final artwork.

Deadlines

Please send portfolios by 11am on Friday 3 February 2012. We will contact the shortlisted illustrators by email by Monday 6 February. The shortlisted illustrators must commit to producing at least 2 sketches/rough drafts based on the extended brief by Friday 2nd March. The winner will be asked to meet with our team to discuss the final version, but the artwork is likely to be needed by the end of March. Please do not submit your portfolio if this timetable is not suitable for you.
