Follow your pecker my son

It used to be that older men advised younger to follow their hearts, but it seems they might have been engaged in a metaphorical conceit because what they actually followed was further down their anatomy. Actually that might be further up their anatomy - in their minds - where they still believed…

Beware of SDN (Sheep in Digital Nitwear)

If you don’t know, the SDN stands for the Scottish Digital Network. When you hear the people, who are supposed to know, explain the concept it is still hard to understand. I am Scottish, I understand Digital and I get Network. But, it transpires that what we’re actually getting with an SDN is a SHINY NEW BROADCAST TELEVISION CHANNEL with some subsidiary web based stuff.

At the conference I was at yesterday, with the very sexed up Greg Dyke,… Continue

Intelligent Cinema for Intelligent People Paralysed by Choice.

I missed Filmcamp a couple of weeks ago (sorry Arvind), but I have to say I hadn't really thought through the implications for cinema of a joined up digital platform for arts events in Scotland. But I went to EDCM this morning and just got it - bang.

Why is it that I don't go to more films at independent cinemas like the Filmhouse? I could… Continue

I value the arts - but grants are no measure of their value

I've always found immesurable to be one of the most interesting measures.

The cuts are coming and the arts are substituting feeling edgy for being edgy. My fear is that funding reductions are going to be applied not by squeezing everyone equally but by ceasing funding for a bunch of companies/projects altogether. The consequence of this is to increase the power of Fiona Hyslop and the Creative Scotland… Continue

Hi Richard,
your name tag / business card has worked well.

As you suggested I've been reading about your Digital Strategy for Scotland.
My first proposals for this project followed those lines, a unified on-line platform for the people - which uses most of the good things we already see in other websites - that would grow audiences by improving the quality of the experience for the users.

I would be especially interested in seeing what you have called Community Articulation and I called Media on Demand.

I really think that would be the way to go. Are you pushing this ideas forward to get funding?

Otherwise I am now thinking of an extra layer to that: co-creation
what about getting the users involved in the creation of the content to enhance their engagement through ownership?
That can involve simpler models such as feedback or evaluation, to more complex models around co-production, idea generation or user testing.

What would be your thoughts on this?

Please drop me a line if you have some spare time to meet for a coffee. I would love to have a chat about this and also about our next workshop.

Cheers
Angela
