Tell us what you're passionate about....
I'm freelance mostly. Starting a masters in September in partnership with Skills Development Scotland at the Glasgow School of Art in Design Innovation. I'm working with Think Public in London for a wee bit in the summer and mostly working on mypolice.org to get it off the ground and into the hands of the public.
What brings you to 38minutes?
I'm passionate about design and how creative solutions can be found through user centric led research and lead to innovation within the public sector.
I also feel design can push boundaries, and has the ability to shift behavior and achieve social change.

Challening what design can do

Well summer just came and went. It’s not like I really had a holiday, I sweated it out over (and still over) mypolice. I feel very humbled to be part of that rollercoaster but will be handing the bulk over to Lauren Currie for the forseeable future until my new course calms down a little.

And so here I am. New studio, not so new art school, but exciting new course. I have began a postgraduate masters at the Glasgow School of Art in… Continue

My police described as 'timely', 'on the ball' and 'something that needs to happen now' at the SIPR conference

SIPR = The Scottish Institute of Policing Research. I attended their third conference yesterday. The emphasis was on the discussion of community policing, a term coined by John Aldersham back in the 70s, and first met with scepticism, which is what I thought my meet mypolice too.

How very wrong I was.

I took along visuals to aid my explanation to attendees as to what mypolice is about, taking them through how the public might… Continue

Activeage and tackling lonliness

Last week I visited my gran in her nursing home. Having been so busy this year with graduating and various other things going on, I felt really bad that I hadn’t been to see her in a long time. The reason she was put into a nursing home was because she can’t quite take care of herself and she needs 24 hour care now.

I can’t help but think, had her mind been kept more active and she had interacted with more people then her rapid… Continue

Not slowing down

Last week has been very productive and busy for mypolice and shows no sign of relenting. Possibly a reason why there has been a bit of a lack of blog posts!

Just to fill you in on last week,

We were at Garnethill Community centre again, this time, setting up in the café and speaking to local residents about mypolice. We held a small workshop where residents were asked to come and chat to us and tell us their stories about the… Continue
