How to stop a viral concept

An interesting article was put out last week in the New York Times by the lead guitarist and singer in the Band 'OK go'; Damian Kulash. The band is famous of it's treadmill-inspired music video of their song 'here we go'. Shot in the home of Kulash's sister, the band uploaded the video to YouTube without telling their record label.

That was four… Continue

Sometimes you enter a space in a building, and your first thought is – I’d love to live in a place like this. Sometimes these spaces are designed to be exceptional like the interior of the East Wing of the National Gallery in Washington DC, designed by IM Pei. And sometimes you’re genuinely caught off guard by the quality of an everyday space.…

I am working hard as always, in the last few days I have done an editorial shoot that will be seen across Glasgow! Not only on buses, trains and so on but in the press as well.

In addition to this I worked on a shoot with Mera Finlayson for her current salon, the premise of the shoot is advertising for the salon, so I am glad to have another one under my belt.

Revenge is moving along nicely. We will be reshooting the trailer over the coming weeks, all shoots will be at the… Continue

Survey - social media usage

Hi - helping out a friend (as you do) who, in turn, is helping out the IA Centre on this social media usage survey, which will be included as part of a wider, international study, the results of which will be presented at a conference in Italy summer 2010.

Would be very grateful if you could complete this and pass on to as many people as you can think of. As an… Continue

Nielsen's latest survey: most online content should be free, but some should be valued (case in point: NT Live!)

With the San Francisco Chronicle's online offering today reporting on Nielsen's new survey that 85% of internet users want online content to be free, cultural organisations could begin to panic about what the business model is for digitising… Continue

Guns for hire?

The Digital Inspiration report, published by The Scottish Digital Media Industry Advisory Group, outlines what it sees as a key challenge for the digital sector:

"Scotland must improve its place in the network of distribution and companies should seek to be an owner/distributor/platform innovator, and not only 'guns for hire'.

Some questions to 38minuters…

A new Website for Old Concerns

An article up today talks about the danger of posting too much personal information on the web. Members of the site FourSquare - for people to share their location - are putting up enough information to have their homes robbed; where they live, and when they aren't there.

The founder of a site that trawls FourSquare twitter feeds called; pleaserobme.com said;

"The website is not a tool for burglary. The point we're getting at is that not long ago it was questionable to share… Continue

Dave the Social Penguin

Maybe it's his glasses, or maybe it's just his tone of voice - this guy has something special - there are litterally thousands of people talking about social media, what to do, how to do it, what not to do, how not to do it - how brilliant they are, how brilliant David Plouffe is (Obama's man) - you get the picture.

Now here comes along Dave - we've…

Muvizu goes beta

Ever heard of Muvizu? It's a beautifully simple and easy-to-use 3D character animation tool that I've been designing for the best part of 18 months. Well, a frantic and stressful fortnight has just given birth to Muvizu Beta and it's available for you to download and use. Oh, and it's completely free.

Muvizu's a 3D movie-making tool; kind of like working with digital puppets. With Muvizu you can create and customise… Continue

My name's been nicked...

Colin Firth stars as George Falconer, an English professor
domiciled in Los Angeles, 1962, who is mourning the recent death of his
lover in a car accident.

Thanks to sites such as 38 Minutes, my name came up first time everytime on Google etc. Now my name's been used for this latest movie, I've been swamped by Firth pix and quotes. Ho hum.

The NEW new Facebook..?

A great example of how less-experienced users interact with the web.

ReadWriteWeb published an article about changes afoot at Facebook, which included the words 'Facebook' and 'login' in the title. The unexpected side effect was that less web-savvy users - who search for "facebook login" when they want to, well, login to facebook… Continue
