Processing for Android

At last I have the birthday present of my dreams! My hubby got me an HTC Desire, (woohoo!) which arrived yesterday and I am in a right state of noobiness!

I couldnt send a music file to my sister using bluetooth but I havent read the whole manual yet.

Just in time for the object of my desire, Processing have done a beta release of an Android plug in. Although the export application tool isnt finished, you have access to an Android emulator and you have the option to use your android… Continue

Greater Glasgow Games Group

G4 is a newly-established group that exists to help students and graduates in digital media get their new-start studios off the ground. We are having our first meeting at UWS Paisley on Tuesday. We have attendees coming from UWS, GCal and Reid Kerr. Not bad for our first ever meeting.

What's it about? Basically, back in the 90's I did a wheen of work to get Dundee on the games map - with help from Dave Jones, Chris van der Kuyl and others.… Continue

Jon Snow to Judge Unstaged Photography Competition

It’s been a long time in the making, and last week when Unstaged was announced on 38 Minutes, we were pretty chuffed to see such an enthusiastic response to the competition. But it’s gotten even bigger and we busting at the seams to announce that Jon Snow has agreed to judge the competition.

So if you’re keen to shake the hand of a media legend,… Continue

The Scheme - Raging Debate on BBC Scotland Documentary Series

I vented my views on this despicable programme on facebook last night and received a mixed reaction. Some people simply like car crash TV where people, usually lowly educated, are set up for ridicule.

This programme excels. In the sucking department.

It”s yicky.

And(seemingly) now it has gone.

I watched Newsnight tonight, aghast, as Stuart [sic] Cosgrove defended this vile pish.

Pat Kane, on the other hand, smelt (smelled?) the… Continue

Creative Scotland wants you to start skipping

Yesterday morning saw the final Creative Scotland dialogue event before the organisation is officially born on 1 July. It was held in the stunning new Briggait in Glasgow's Merchant City. Originally a fishmarket, the A-listed building has been transformed into an arts space and it really is beautiful, with original features and great light for artists. All 69 studios have already been filled and the venue doesn't officially open until 23… Continue

Google Rebrands the Car Salesman

Let’s face it, a little accountability and transparency never hurt anyone. Especially a transnational corporation with a hip corporate image.

Google has been clinging to claims of innocence despite being exposed for collecting private wi-fi information during its drive by shootings for google street view. Has the hip and funky google, who delights us with… Continue

The MacGuffin

Many film thrillers employ the Hitchcock device of a MacGuffin. That’s to say some plot element which provides an excuse for the narrative to take place and propels the action forward. Think of ‘The Maltese Falcon’ or ‘North by Northwest’.

The important thing about a MacGuffin is that it doesn’t necessarily need to be that important – or even real. What it does is provide a context for exploring more important things like values and… Continue
