To Win A Webby

Hello everyone, Did you know that the communist state of Slabovia (www.slabovia.tv) is up for a Webby? We've also got a shot at winning the People's Voice, but that requires votes... hence this blog. And voting ends on the 30th, so swift action is required! Slabovia's dictator, General Schmerdiakov, is insisting that I post this blog and ask that you good folk of 38 minutes spend a minute helping him win the Webby and move one step closer to world domination. Here's the link… Continue

A Day Out To Talk About...

hello again - really must stop meeting you all like this... which is the purpose of this blog post. Online communities are great and all, but if we're wanting to take themes, ideas and heads and bash them around a bit can I suggest that we look to do an offline version of 38minutes? How's about we drum up a little self-serving community spirit and take it upon ourselves to hold a day (or half perhaps), with an agenda and some speakers (all sourced locally for a welcome change). I was just on a… Continue

CVs and Talent

Hello again, Just wanted to put a wee note in 38minute space to say that Tern Digital is always on the prowl for new talent and CVs - we've a few projects in development that look close to becoming projects that will need staffing. Obviously we have our pool of friends and peers (who we think are ace), but I'm always wanting to expand on this and encourage anyone to drop me a mail if you want to meet for a coffee and say hello... my email is simon@terntv.com :) Hope all is well with everyone!… Continue

Come Play With My Story World

Here it goes, another blog post from me. This time, I'm going to do a little head scratching and a little moaning about storyworlds, audience participation and what is expected by 4IP. Okay, so the evolution of the internet is really mind blowing - and the potential to deliver NEW forms of narrative, to me, is possibly the most exciting of all. Traditionally - us storytellers - we've been restricted to platform as to what can be done whether that be TV, film, a book... even a game. The internet… Continue

PlayStation Home is here

Noticed a new button on my PS3 last night... and quickly downloaded PlayStation Home (its new - but years in the coming - community platform). Still pretty buggy (esp getting into it) and loading times are slightly annoying (though fine for gamers - coz we're used to this), but on the whole it is a glorious piece of work... a sight to behold. If anyone still happens to use Second Life, here is a quantum jump in 3d social networks, and - I'd say - yet another reason to have a PS3 as your home en… Continue

Think Before You Commit - Is a 4IP project for you?

Ok, so I'm going to write a pretty controversial blog - but one that I think needs to be written. I'm keen to get a discussion around this (and state at the outset that this is a thought of mine and does not intend to reflect anything other than my own views). No one will deny that 4IP and the potential money it brings with it is not an incredibly appealling prospect. You can see by the 500+ members on 38 minutes the draw of what 4IP has to offer. Now, I'm lucky enough to be part of the Digita… Continue

ARGs - what do you think?

Hey, I thought I'd ask the question simply... what do 38 Minute members think of ARGs? I'm not going to reveal my position as it will skew the response. Continue

Transmedia People

Came across a new term for us lot... TRANSMEDIA Producers. Think it sounds pretty groovy? It's about making products that exist (and have been designed to exist in a narrative sense) across media platforms... as a term Multimedia is almost as bad as NewMedia (makes me think of CDROMs), so I say bring on the revolution... let's be Transmedia peoples ;) Hope everyone is well! What would be missing? What is the need?

It's interesting to think in a world without PSB via TV/radio, what would we be missing out on. I think, conceptually, this is a good starting bloc for 4IP ideas. When thinking online projects, we often get wrapped up in the various ways to tackle ideas ("wouldn't this be cool"), sometimes without putting enough thought into what that core idea is in the first place. This is no bad thing to be so fired up about the potential of delivery, providing we keep returning to what the 'need' is behind w… Continue

Experiential content experiences

Been thinking about experiential content experiences. Slabovia's been interesting for us, seeing how people will roleplay given the right parameters... ok, ARGs are pushing this side of thing, but a great line from Call Of Cathulu RPG is that 'the fun in role playing is in the role playing...'. I fear that the current take on ARG is too worthy and not enough about just acting up and having fun. (Note that the end of that quote is "...and not in the winning". That is something I think's re… Continue
