40minutes, BarCampBelfast and 38minutes' growth to 1000 members

After a 40minute haul from Edinburgh to Belfast in the wee small hours today, I've just finished a vibrant q&a session on 4iP at BarCampBelfast, and hopefully a new group of NI's most talented and enthusiastic (well, the ones who give up their Saturday to learn more about digital media) will be joining us here on 38minutes before submitting their next slate of ideas. It'll only take eight of them to knock us into our millennial member.
So, as 38minutes hits its 1000th participant, what would you do to celebrate that could change the digital media landscape in Scotland and Northern Ireland for the better? What kind of event, online or off, would be helpful at this moment in time to help move your company or your ideas onwards (and help us do the same)?

It's great to be welcomed to this community as the 1000th member - thanks Ewan.

The internet, and social media in general is extremely fragmented, everyone tries to get their own 'brand' or company to be 'the one' - but there are still many pieces which make it truly social that are being left out, there are too many accounts we need to log into and keep updated. I feel that it's still a bit like the wild west in frontier days out there - so in reality - everything is still up for grabs - or is it?

Good to meet you yesterday in Belfast - very interesting to hear about 4IP and what the organisation has been doing and can help with

To celebrate that's easy I was doing that yesterday in Dundee playing Digital Goldfish's 'Bloons' in Whites Pub in Provost Rd as St Johnstone fans sang themselves hoarse. Still top of the league and a title beckons. Managed to get to level 5 which for me is astounding I'm more theory than practice. But good to see a Dundee casual game doing so well in iPhone store.

To change digital media .On Friday I was at a leadership lunch with Lord Carter as part of Digital Britain consultation, I liked his passion for what he described as "the wild west of digital media" by which I think he meant the no-rules frontierism of the current era of web 2.0 innovation, challenging and de-stabilising established business orthodoxy. For me I'd modernise the copyright laws of the UK which in many cases 'protect' wealth inheritance above social creativity.

We had a few of our guys ther and they agreed. Good idea. Any others, I wonder? BTW, we need to get in touch about your idea. Melikey. :-)

It's not solely digital media, but I just got back from TechCrunch's Geek'n'Rolla in London. It was awesome, a similar packed, quick-fire yet soul-searchingly helpful mix of advice and networking would go down well in Scotland methinks.
