Tuesday 14th July 2009
0900 – 1200
227 West George Street, Glasgow G2 2ND

It's vital for digital media companies to know exactly what is and isn't allowed when you want to use other people's intellectual property....or when they want to use yours. What are the rules and what are the risks? Do you really know your online rights?

TRC is holding a short series of Legal Advisory Workshops (THE LAW SERIES) to guide creative digital businesses through the issues and the answers. They'll be conducted by the specialist international law firm Pinsent Masons and one-to-one sessions on areas of particular interest will also be available.

The first of the half-day workshops - DIGITAL RIGHTS AND WRONGS - will focus on the fair and legal use of third party content. It is being held at TRC on Tuesday 14th July from 0900 - 1200.

Places on this workshop will be limited to ten so it’s first come, first served – please download the registration form from TRC's website www.trcmedia.org and return it to us to let us know you’d like to attend.

There's every chance George if there's interest, although nothing firmly in place yet. Was a great workshop.

InvestNI did something similar in Belfast and Derry last month and the takeup was excellent. We had some very thought provoking speakers and a lot of interest in the speakers statements - including one which stated that the Creative Sector is the worst at IP theft from the Creative Sector!!!!

Despite an impressive flurry of intial interest for these we still have a few places available for this session.

Thought it might be useful to flesh out the content a little. Sounds like a really interesting session from the Pinsent and Mason legal team.

Topics they'll be covering include:

The extent to which you can legally use other people's IP in your own digital work.

Protecting your own brand and IP.

And conversely, constructively allowing others to use your IP and brand to good effect.

An update on the legal implications of the Digital Britain report.

A refresher on fair use/fair dealing and clearances.

Lots of juicy case studies and group debate along the way too.

Hope some of you are interested and can join us.
