George Falconer a project manager within Scottish Enterprise’s Digital Markets and Enabling Technologies team. For the last six years he worked with national partners to develop projects to support the growth of the digital media industries in Scotland.

Officially based in Scottish Enterprise's Glasgow office, having offices across Scotland George tends to be out and about a great deal. Usually to be found in an office in an area with a particular digital media expertise - Dundee is strong in the games sector, Edinburgh advertising and publishing, Glasgow with broadcast and independent television production. His team works with colleagues in various offices to support these areas of excellence.

The Digital Media team works closely with the digital media industries; helping establish an Industry Advisory Group, which provides strategic guidance to the public sector and Scottish Government. They worked with the Scottish Broadcast Commission, providing statistics and other economic information for the “Platform for Success” report. The team has also collaborated with the Scottish Government on the Creative Industries Framework Agreement. SE are also part of a broadcast and television working group, which aims to co-ordinate public and private sector activity to grow the sector. And recently launched a digital media joint investment fund to attract new co-investors to stimulate the growth of the digital media industries.

George has also had long relationship with the BBC and Channel 4, Musician’s Union, PACT, developing and delivering projects such as BBC Innovation Labs, Channel 4’s Ideasfactory and 4 Talent, Writers Factory with Scottish Screen and the Scottish Arts Council, Musicworks and Musicwise. The SE team kicked off the successful bid for the MTV Europe Awards in Edinburgh. Many of these projects have clearly defined numerical measures; GVA and GDP, employment, increase in turnover, and so on, but they can have many other satisfying “indirect impacts”. One thing is for sure; many people working in the creative industries in Scotland have been assisted by a project supported by Scottish Enterprise, and it’s been George's privilege and pleasure to have been part of it all!

Scottish Enterprise wants to see our Scottish companies grow and succeed, at home and globally. Their team is committed to the growth of the digital media industries in Scotland, and will continue to work with partners to deliver projects that support this objective.

It's worth stressing just how terrific an ambassador George Falconer is for SE. He always returns your call/ email, he thinks out the box, he's always willing to help with advice, networking and facilitation and he brings bags of enthusiasm and a dose of self-effacing humility. Dare I say it, he has a sense of humour too, a much needed trait in the line of work he is in. If anyone deserves to become a featured member, it's got to be George 'Drummer' Falconer. Shame Clooney secured the other moni… Continue
