The Modern Guide to the Scottish Local Elections
UK’s First Live Online Only Local Interactive Question Time debates Launches from Glasgow for 2012 Council Elections.
The first Modern Guide “Question Time – Local Live and Social” broadcast, is taking place at the Parish Halls, George Square Glasgow on April 2, 2012 at 7:00pm.
Chaired by Times journalist and political broadcaster Lorraine Davidson, the event will have leading figures from each of the main parties. It will be broadcast live via www.themodernguide.com, www.kiltr.com , and http://gust.tv/ . With other media outlets invited to take the live stream.
The Modern Guide is launching “Live, Local and Social Question Time“ starting in Glasgow, to coincide with the 2012 Council Elections, and the UK wide focus on the Glasgow Election.
This is a ground breaking initiative in online broadcasting. Opening up Scottish and UK political debate at a local level and making it accessible to the widest possible audience. Viewers will be able to participate in the live debate as it happens using the hashtag #localqt
The Glasgow event will be followed up by events in Edinburgh, and around the country prior to the Council Elections.
Until now, most local political debate has not been accessible to voters. We are opening up local politics to the same level of scrutiny as national politics. This is about using technology to inform people and motivate them to participate in society through the election.
“With current world interest in Scottish politics this creates perfect timing to use the best technology possible to open up local politics. Until now, this kind of event has only been attempted on a national level by the major broadcasters such as the BBC or ITV. The irony is that it’s arguably at a local level where people really feel the effect of politics and have a chance of making an impact,"
The events will follow the BBC Question Time format, with members of the audience and online viewers asking the questions. If you would like to attend the live broadcast and question the panel should get in touch with vincent@themodernguide.co.uk to register an interest in attending and proposed question.
