SIPR = The Scottish Institute of Policing Research. I attended their third conference yesterday. The emphasis was on the discussion of community policing, a term coined by John Aldersham back in the 70s, and first met with scepticism, which is what I thought my meet mypolice too.
How very wrong I was.
I took along visuals to aid my explanation to attendees as to what mypolice is about, taking them through how the public might use the site. What’s become apparent as I’ve talked about the idea is the many great possibilities which mypolice could achieve;
Improved engagement with ‘hard to reach groups’
Flag up issues and concerns from a pan-uk to small community level
The collection of real time and up to date data
…and importantly, a space for the police and other organisations, including local councils and pcts to respond to issues which the public has voiced by actively solving them and reporting the outcomes. Further to this, as mypolice progresses, we’re going to offer our skills as designers to come in and help aid that change...
These possibilities and ideas, were all extremely relevant to the discussions of the day.
