Our call for ideas has been open for the last two months and finishes this
Friday, 22nd May - we've had over 60 entries so far and we're really pleased with how it's been gathering momentum.
We've also announced some of our prizes for the weekend, including support from Firstport, alongside two web design and development agencies, the details of which may be found
here.
We'll let you know once the successful ideas have been selected by our judges in early June.
Final week for Social Innovation Camp June 2009 call for ideas:
Send us your idea that uses the web to change the world!
You’ve got just five days left to send us your idea for a web tool to change the world: our call for ideas for Social Innovation Camp Scotland closes at midnight on Friday 22nd May.
We’re looking for the best ideas for web-based tools that can change stuff that matters.
Over one weekend from 19th-21st June 2009, we’re bringing together some of the best of the UK’s software developers and designers with those at the sharp end of social problems at the Saltire Centre, Glasgow.
Their mission will be to turn six back-of-the-envelope ideas that could change the world into social start-ups - complete with working software. And all in under 48 hours.
You’ve got until
this Friday to send us your idea that uses the web to create social change and you could be joining 100 other participants to try and make it a reality.
How it works
1. ) Think of an idea
Think of an idea that uses the web to create social change and send it to us through our website by
Friday 22nd May.
We're looking for the best ideas that use the web to change stuff that matters - be that in education, health care, the environment…. There's only one thing that every idea must have in common: that they use the web to help people do something better for themselves.
You can find some hints for what makes a good Social Innovation Camp idea here.
2. ) We choose six of the best
From the ideas submitted through our website, our judges choose six of the best to come to the Social Innovation Camp weekend.
3. ) Get involved
We need the help of a huge range of people to make our six ideas a reality. Whether you're a software developer, a designer, you've got a business mind or you're someone who knows all about the problems we’re trying to solve, you can sign up to get involved.
4. ) Camp!
From 6pm on Friday 19th June until 4pm on Sunday 21st June, we’ll be gathering around 100 people in the Saltire Centre, Cowcaddens Road, Glasgow. They'll have just 48 hours to help turn our six back-of-the-envelope ideas into social start-ups in just two days - from hacking together software to working out how to grow a community of users.
5. ) Show and Tell
The weekend finishes with a Show and Tell pitching competition between our six teams and we’ll award a prize to the most impressive idea.
Who's it for?
Absolutely anyone can enter an idea: if you're a hacker with an itch to scratch, we want to hear from you - but you don't have to be technically skilled to get involved.
And to enter an idea, there's no need for you to be based in Scotland - or even the UK. As long as you can get yourself to the Saltire Centre in Glasgow from
19th-21st June.
So send us your idea!
So get thinking: you've only got until Friday 22nd May to send us your idea through our website.
